Humanitarian Work

alleviate
(v): to make suffering less severe

Nadia has been helping to alleviate the pains of poverty since 1989, when she began a homeless outreach, distributing sandwiches, hot coffee, and hand warmers to men and women living on the streets of Washington, DC.

In the early 1990s, TJ MAXX and other retail stores donated clothing on a weekly basis, and Nadia and her mother gathered, sorted, and delivered clothing to the homeless, unwed teenage mothers, urban children, flood victims, and missionaries in Lebanon and Nigeria, including these organizations: Albany First Assembly of God, Kids Konnection, Sasha Bruce Youthwork, The Alliance to Save America’s Future, and Teen Challenge.

Nadia began her stint in foreign missions in 1991, attending Youth With A Mission’s Discipleship Training School in Nicosia, Cyprus. Afterward, her team took part in an outreach in Jerusalem. In 1995, Nadia joined an OM (Operation Mobilization) evangelism team in Nazareth, the largest Muslim town in Israel, conducting door-to-door evangelism, distributing Christian literature in the Arabic language, and praying for those in need. Shortly after returning to the US, Nadia met and became friends with George Verwer, the charismatic founder of OM. Verwer has been a strong spiritual mentor to Nadia for the last twenty-three years.

In 1992, Nadia produced gratis a successful fundraising video for Kids Konnection, a ministry to impoverished neighborhoods in SE Washington, DC, with news footage provided by ABC’s Nightline producer Lionel Chapman.

In 1998, for Campus Crusade for Christ, Nadia wrote, recorded, and produced an evangelical music video (No Greater Love) that aired on SAT7, the Christian Arabic language broadcasting service.

In 2013, Nadia established the Love Made Visible Clothing Bank, purchasing clothing, food, and housewares and donating to Tsali Manor Senior Center (Cherokee, NC), Mountain Haven Ministries (Waynesville, NC), Living Waters Lutheran Church (Cherokee, NC), The Steadfast House homeless shelter (Asheville, NC), and Long Branch Baptist Church (Dillsboro, NC) Nadia also created Gift Bags for women in shelters recovering from sex-trafficking.

In response to the Syrian refugee crisis, Nadia supported teams distributing food to refugee camps in Beirut, Lebanon. From 2013 to 2017, Nadia provided monthly support to a Nigerian ministry that rescues children from a terrorist group and cares for them in an orphanage.
